The Wao-Maguing Dream Road is Now Passable
The municipalities of Wao and Amai Manabilang are peculiar because they are part of the province of Lanao del Sur, however, to go there from the province mainland, one has to endure eight hours of drive from Lanao del Sur mainland passing through Lanao del Norte, Iligan City, Misamis Oriental, Cagayan de Oro and Bukidnon. It's like going to another province.
On April 4, 2016, it took Governor Mamintal “Bombit” Alonto Adiong, Jr. of Lanao del Sur and his convoy to traverse the now passable Wao-Maguing road and reach Amai Manabilang and Wao coming from Marawi City.
As of press time, 11.3 km of the 75-kilometer national road is still being concreted according DPWH Region 10 Engr. Mikunug Macabantog, and will be completed when the 2016 budget has been fully released. He also said that DPWH has already asked for additional P225 million in the 2017 national budget to fund the paving of the remaining 6.5 km and P152 million to build five permanent bridges.
Historically, the Wao-Maguing road was already planned in the 1950s by the late Sen. Ahmad Domocao Alonto. But when he did not get reelected, the funds were redirected to another project in Mindanao. It took more or less six decades for the plans to materialize thanks to the sons of the senator's son-in law--Gov. Bombit Adiong and Cong. Hooky Adiong.
